I think you're seeing correctly AB. That 1/16 to 1/8 gap between the driver and back cover is about the same amount that this 802G driver in front of me measures short of 4 inches, this driver's length is ~ 3-15/16 inches.

I'm assuming that cover just remains loose from it's dis-assembly for pics.
